99k for Canines July 2025

I’m taking part in the 99K For Canines with Dogs Trust Ireland!

I'll be taking on a challenge of walking 99 kilometres in a month to help stray and abandoned dogs and puppies. Every euro raised gives the gift of a second chance to our furry friends in Dogs Trust Ireland's care - thank you for your support!

The aim of Dogs Trust Ireland is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners. Since opening their Rehoming Centre in 2009, they have rescued and rehomed over 22,000 dogs. They rely on public support to fund their work and they are entirely reliant on the generosity of amazing people to continue our life-saving work. Every single donation raised provides each dog that comes into their care with nutritious food, veterinary treatment, a microchip, vaccinations and most importantly, love and cuddles from their canine carers and a forever home.

My Updates

Whoa we're halfway there!

Sunday 20th Jul
Yes, we are finally over halfway there, with 55km down and 44km to go! That's 11 more days of 4km walks, and we'll make the deadline! It's been both tough and fun and a new experience that's brought Belle and I closer together. And hopefully it brings some other cute furry friends closer to their forever homes and owners who'll love them lots! Thanks everyone who has supported! Your donation makes a difference 🐶🌞

Getting into the swing of things!

Tuesday 8th Jul
Belle and I are 6 days into this challenge and 24.65 kilometers walked! The weather has been all over the place and it hasn't always been easy to get out and do it, but we're doing this for a reason. To raise money and awareness that helps dogs in shelters that don't have owners to care for them, to play with them and take them on long walks. Please donate to help them find their forever homes. Thank you to everyone that has already shown their support! Love from Luke and Belle 🐾

Days 2 and 3

Saturday 5th Jul
Myself and Belle have been keeping the walking going, with almost 12km down in the first 3 days! My body isn't used to walking this much, hence the blisters and chafing, but I'm powering through and hopefully it will come easier with time. Belle is loving the freedom to run around the fields, but she's less enthusiastic about being put on the leash at times! We're planning to switch it up and visit some new walking spots soon. So check back here for more pictures and updates!

A Late Start

Thursday 3rd Jul
Due to a family bereavement, Belle and I are late to start this challenge. Yet start we did! Almost 4km down, a tired walker and a happy dog 🐕😴 and only 95km to go! Donate to support us and help some dogs 🐶 Your money goes a long way!

The right shoes for the job

Thursday 26th Jun
Since my Vans aren't exactly ideal for doing a lot of walking, I've invested in a decent pair of walking shoes. Hopefully these trail walking Skechers will keep my feet happy and blister free (I still love my Vans though!)

Fundraising Fuel!

Wednesday 25th Jun
99km could prove an awful ordeal without any snacks to keep us going! We've little treats for the walks, beef feet for passing the big milestones, and a pack of new balls for playtime! Now we're ready for the walks ahead.

Belle of the Ball

Monday 23rd Jun
Today my furry friend and I took to the lawn for some ball throwing fun. We both (mainly me) need to get our stamina up for all of the walking ahead. Belle is lucky she gets lots of nice toys to play with, but not all dogs are. Help shelter dogs find their fun, and possibly their forever homes, by donating. We know they'll appreciate it!

Training

Sunday 22nd Jun
Took Belle out for a short walk on the leash. Time to get used to walking together and to get ready for July. Ordered some new walking trainers too, because my Vans just aren't cut out for it!

What's this all about?

Saturday 21st Jun
I'm not a fit person. In fact pokemon go keeps telling me I walk round 13km a week. That's 52km a month, far shy of the 99km I'll have to do. But I want all the cute dogs to have nice, happy lives and so I'm going to try my best to do it. Helping me in this task, and fulfilling the dog portion of the "walk your dog", is my sister's dog Belle. Belle has more energy than I've ever had and likes to walk 50-100 metres ahead of my slow ass. We're going to get out there on the farm, wearing my dogs trust t-shirt and her bandana (if we hit 99 euro donated) and we're going to walk to raise money for all the poor pooches, the desperate doggos, the feckless fluffers! Donate now and we'll go into July knowing our effort is already helping. Thank you for your support!
