For Beza - and Dogs Like Her: My 99K Challenge

Hi, I’m Michal, and this August I’m taking part in Dogs Trust Ireland’s 99K for Canines challenge to raise funds for stray and abandoned dogs.
This cause is deeply personal to me.
Our dog Beza was known as Agnes when she was rescued by Dogs Trust in 2021. She had recently given birth when she was abandoned near the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Finglas. She was severely underweight, frightened and in need of veterinary care. Sadly, her puppies were never found.
Dogs Trust gave her the treatment, care and time she needed to recover. She later became part of our family and, several years on, Beza is a happy, gentle and deeply loved dog.
You can read her full rescue story and see the original photographs here:

Beza’s story shows what a second chance can become. I’m taking on this challenge to give something back to Dogs Trust Ireland and to help more dogs receive the food, veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and care they need while waiting for a safe and loving home.
The official challenge is to complete 99 kilometres, and my current fundraising goal is €99. I want to go further, so I’m committing to walk and run 300 kilometres during August. I hope to raise at least €300 — and, with your support, perhaps even more — because dogs like Beza are worth every kilometre.
I’ve started the fundraiser with my own €50 donation. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help. Sharing this page would also mean a lot.
Thank you for supporting Dogs Trust Ireland and helping more dogs receive the second chance that Beza was given.

Challenge Complete - 322,157 Steps Later
Tuesday 1st Sep
And that’s a wrap on my 99K for Canines challenge.
Over the course of August, I completed 322,157 steps, covering a total of 268.47 kilometres through walking and running.
I didn’t quite reach my personal stretch goal of 300 kilometres this time - perhaps that’s a challenge for another day - but I’m very happy I took this on. And, if I’m honest, I’m also a little tired!
Most importantly, together we raised €111 for Dogs Trust Ireland, exceeding the original €99 fundraising target.
A genuine thank you to everyone who donated, supported the challenge or followed my progress along the way. Every contribution helps Dogs Trust continue giving dogs like Beza the care and second chance they deserve.
The fundraising page will remain open for anyone who would still like to contribute, but for now, it’s time to give the legs a well-earned rest.
Thank you!

25 Days In - 270,000 Steps and Still Going
Tuesday 25th Aug
25 days into the challenge and I’ve now reached 270,000 steps.
It’s been a pretty demanding month, so I’m especially happy that I’ve managed to stay consistent and keep moving every day.
I’m well on track to pass 300,000 steps before the end of August - and with a few days still left, I’m hoping to go even further.
It’s been a great challenge so far, but most importantly, every walk and every kilometre is helping to raise awareness and support for Dogs Trust Ireland and dogs like Beza.
Still going. Let’s see where I finish!

22 Days In - Still on my 300k Track!
Saturday 22nd Aug
22 days into the challenge and I’m very happy with the progress so far.
I’ve managed to complete at least 10k steps every single day since the start, and today, 22 August, I reached approx. 220k steps!
The consistency is paying off, I’m on track with my target, and I’m really enjoying the challenge.
Still plenty of kilometres ahead - so I’ll keep walking, running and raising support for Dogs Trust Ireland and dogs like Beza.
Thanks to everyone following and supporting the journey!

One Week In - 106,000 Steps and Counting
Saturday 8th Aug
One week into my 99K for Canines challenge, and I’m off to a strong start.
Since the challenge began, I’ve already completed more than 106,000 steps through walking and running - and I’m keeping the momentum going.
My personal target for August is 300 kilometres, so there’s still plenty ahead, but I’m really enjoying the challenge and the reason behind it makes every kilometre worthwhile.
Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated or shared the page so far.
Onwards to the next milestone - and more kilometres for Dogs Trust Ireland and dogs like Beza.

The T-shirt Is Here - My First Kilometres Start Today!
Saturday 1st Aug
My Dogs Trust T-shirt has arrived, and today I’m heading out to complete the first kilometres of my 99K for Canines challenge.
The official challenge is 99 kilometres, but I’ve set myself a personal target of walking and running 300 kilometres during August. I want to go further and raise as much as possible for Dogs Trust Ireland — because dogs like Beza are worth every kilometre.
I’ll be sharing my progress as the distance adds up. Thank you to everyone who has already donated, shared the page or supported the challenge.
Time to get started!
