99k for Canines September 2025

I’m taking part in the 99K For Canines with Dogs Trust Ireland!

I'll be taking on a challenge of walking 99 kilometres in a month to help stray and abandoned dogs and puppies. Every euro raised gives the gift of a second chance to our furry friends in Dogs Trust Ireland's care - thank you for your support!

The aim of Dogs Trust Ireland is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners. Since opening their Rehoming Centre in 2009, they have rescued and rehomed over 22,000 dogs. They rely on public support to fund their work and they are entirely reliant on the generosity of amazing people to continue our life-saving work. Every single donation raised provides each dog that comes into their care with nutritious food, veterinary treatment, a microchip, vaccinations and most importantly, love and cuddles from their canine carers and a forever home.

Hikes 2 + 3 - 54/99km completed

Friday 19th Sep
Pics from these hikes here: https://imgur.com/a/VcfSRv6

Hikes 2+3 clocked up a combined 31.39km, with a 13.86 hike from Roundwood to Glendalough along the Wicklow Way (on an EXTREMELY rainy day, don't recommend) and then a 17.53km hike along the red and white trails in Glendalough (yes, I've downloaded a route tracker).

The Glendalough trails were extremely rewarding, not least because it felt like we were actually in some 'wild'(ish) nature, but because we also got up close with some of the naturalised hybrid Sitka/Red deer.

Tomorrow is my attempt for my longest day - walking from Howth to Bray, which should be about 37km.

First Hike! 23km

Saturday 13th Sep
This is a week late, but consider it a proof-of-hike.

This hike was the first stage of the Wicklow Way, starting at Marlay Park with a minor diversion at the end to Enniskerry instead of Knockree. I kept getting conflicting information on the number of kms this was (and I don't have Strava) so I'm splitting the difference and calling it as 23k completed.

Honestly, I was disappointed in the route. I've wanted to do the Wicklow Way for years but despite a few areas with nice views, a large part of this trail is through grim monotonous Coillte forests, sprinkled with a few barren deforested wastelands. Lovely!
